Oklahoma's Fight
Basketball had become the most popular and successful sport for females, but Oklahoma's women's team had two straight losing seasons. The men's basketball coach even called the funding for the women's basketball team "money down the drain." Oklahoma athletic officials decided that the money for the women's basketball fund would be better spent on other sports. The players believed their team wasn't the problem, it was the administration. They believed the coaches and school just didn't care about the program. The team lacked a decent coach, and was refused money to advertise their games to the public.
Due to the changes Title IX was causing around the country, the angry female athletes were taken seriously when they demanded a change. Fellow women's basketball coaches also cried out against the unfair actions being taken against the Oklahoma female basketball players. A lawyer experienced in Title IX cases threatened to sue the school, so not even a week after Oklahoma abolished the women's basketball team, the school changed their decision. The Oklahoma women's basketball team was restored, and is only one example of the many people fighting for justice.

Amy Cohen Fights
Amy Cohen was a gymnast at Brown University where the gymnasts' varsity team wasn't allowed to compete. The gymnasts were promised that if they raised enough money then they would be eligible to compete as a varsity team. The gymnasts set to work to raise money for their team. They preformed on lawns for spare change, gathered small donations, and even sewed their own leotards to save money. Even after all their hard work the team was denied from competing. The gymnasts challenged Brown University and filed a lawsuit against the school. In the end the Supreme Court found that Brown University violated Title IX, and as a result the school had to reinstate the gymnasts' team and find more ways to support female athletes.
Once again, Title IX helped insure that female athletes were not unjustly discriminated against, and got the rights they deserve.
