Media Attention
Title IX led to increased media attention for women's sports.
On July 10, 1999 more than 90,000 fans in an arena and an American television audience of about 40 million viewers watched the American soccer team defeat the Chinese for the Women's World Cup. This is an incredible feat, not only did they win the World Cup, but they had over 40,090,000 spectators that witnessed how powerful female athletes can be. Prior to Title IX most anyone would have believed it impossible for a female sport to receive that much attention from so many people.
Most people mistakenly believe that Title IX invented women's sports, and though many opportunities for females to participate in athletic activities opened up after it was passed, Title IX didn't invent women's sports. Female sports existed long before Title IX, it was just because of Title IX that people actually began to take notice of female athletes.
Title IX drew the public's attention to women's sports, and this also shined the light on the unjustness of the female sports world. If it weren't for Title IX shining the light on women's sports, then the fight for equality between men and women athletes wouldn't have occurred.
